Registering to vote

Each voter must be registered to vote in Arlington County at least 29 days before the election is held. You may register in person or by mail.

Registration deadlines for 2008:
  • For Feb. 12 Presidential primary: Register by Mon., Jan. 14, at 5 pm
  • For June 10 primary election: Register by Mon., May 12, at 5 pm
  • For Nov. 4 general election: Register by Mon., Oct. 6, at 5 pm
You may register to vote at these locations in Arlington:

    When: Mon.-Fri., 8 am - 5 pm; Sat., 8 am - 12 noon
You may submit your Virginia voter registration form by mail if you prefer. Forms are available at many locations in Arlington:
  • County Office Building and other county offices
  • County library branches
  • Virginia Dept. of Motor Vehicles offices

You may also obtain a registration form:

  • from the County Voter Registration Office (call 703-228-3456 or email
  • from the Arlington Republican Party (call 703-685-2488)
  • by downloading the form and printing it.

Within 30 days after registering, you should receive a Voter ID card in the mail from the County, showing your address and your voting precinct and polling place. On Election Day, you will be allowed to vote only at the precinct in which you are registered to vote.

If you have changed your address or your name, you'll need to update your registration information. If you've moved from outside Arlington, submit a new voter registration form. If you've moved within Arlington, complete the change-of-information form on the back of your voter ID card, or download the change of address form, and send it to the County Voter Registration Office (County Office Bldg. #320, 2100 Clarendon Blvd., Arlington 22201).
