Registering to vote

Each voter must be registered to vote in Arlington County at least 22 days before the election is held. You may register in person or by mail.

Registration deadlines for 2010
  • For June 8 primary election: Register by Mon., May 17
  • For Nov. 2 general election: Register by Tue., Oct. 12
You may register to vote at these locations in Arlington:
  • County Voter Registration Office
    Where: County Office Bldg., Suite 320
            2100 Clarendon Blvd. (near Court House - see map)
    When: Mon.-Fri., 8 am - 5 pm

  • Virginia Dept. of Motor Vehicles
    Where: 4150 S. Four Mile Run Dr. (near Walter Reed Dr. - see map)
    When: Mon.-Fri., 8 am - 5 pm; Sat., 8 am - 12 noon
You may submit your Virginia voter registration form by mail if you prefer. The form must be postmarked by the registration deadline. Forms are available at many locations in Arlington:
  • County Office Building and other county offices
  • County library branches
  • Virginia Dept. of Motor Vehicles offices

You may also obtain a registration form:

  • from the County Voter Registration Office (call 703-228-3456 or email )
  • from the Arlington Republican Party (call 703-685-2488 or email )
  • by downloading and printing (PDF format, ~190 kb).

Within 30 days after registering, you should receive a Voter ID card in the mail from the County, showing your address and your voting precinct and polling place. On Election Day, you will be allowed to vote only at the precinct in which you are registered to vote.

If you have changed your address or your name, you'll need to update your registration information. If you've moved outside Arlington, submit a new voter registration form to the registrar in your new city or county. If you've moved within Arlington, you should:
  • use the change-of-information form on the back of your voter ID card; or
  • ask the County Voter Registration Office for a change-of-address form; or
  • download and print the change-of-address form (PDF format, ~80 kb).
Then submit the information to the County Voter Registration Office in person, or by mail (County Office Bldg. #320, 2100 Clarendon Blvd., Arlington 22201) or by fax (703-228-3659). Any change of address must be signed and submitted by the registration deadline.
