If you are unable to vote in person at your polling place on Election Day, you may vote by absentee ballot.
Absentee voting is available for all public elections: general elections (every November), primary elections and special elections (when called). Absentee voting does not apply to party-run events, such as County Committee meetings, party canvasses, district conventions and state conventions.
Who is eligible
In order to vote absentee, a voter must meet one of the allowable criteria. (Virginia does not allow unrestricted "early voting".) Reasons for voting absentee include:
illness or physical disability
absence from the County (for school, military duty, business, vacation)
A voter must apply to vote absentee. Ballots may be cast in either of the following ways:
By mail: Each step of the absentee voting process (application, ballot) is handled by mail. Requires adequate time for mail delivery. Read more about voting absentee by mail.
In person: All steps are handled in one visit to the County Office Building. Read more about voting absentee in person.
