Resolution 2003-02:
Honoring Scott McGeary
for extroardinary service as Chairman
of the Arlington Electoral Board

Whereas, since 1994, Scott McGeary has served as Chairman of the Arlington Electoral Board; and

Whereas, because Virginia law requires that two of the three Board members must represent the political party of the current governor, Scott McGeary, serving as a Republican, was required to vacate his Board seat at the end of this term February 28, 2003; and

Whereas, during his tenure, Scott McGeary's dedication to his job as Chairman ensured the Arlington Electoral Board was able to successfully accomplish its duties, including certifying elections, assisting with the training of election officers, conducting cavasses of elections, approving ballots, creating absentee ballots, and certifying voting equipment; and

Whereas, Scott McGeary's encyclopedic knowledge of elections and election procedures and laws is unparalleled; and

Whereas, in addition to his outstanding service on the Arlington Electoral Board, Scott McGeary's leadership roles both in Arlington and for the State of Virginia clearly signifies his tremendous devotion to the local and statewide communities; and

Whereas, Scott McGeary's leadership roles since moving to Arlington in 1961 include serving as vice rector of the George Mason University Board of Visitors, chairman of the Board of Zoning Appeals, chairman of the Arlington Workforce Investment Board, cochairman of the Friends of the Arlington Campus of George Mason University, chairman of the Arlington Chamber of Commerce, the Arlington Committee of 100, the Arlington United Way Campaign, and president of the Arlington County Civic Federation and co-chairman of the Arlington County Board's Higher Education Advisory Committee; and

Whereas, even with his extensive involvement with community activities, Scott McGeary has also been a long-standing and committed member of the Arlington County Republican Committee, including serving as past Chairman;

Now therefore, be it resolved

That the Arlington County Republican Committee recognizes and commends the outstanding service of Scott McGeary as Chairman of the Arlington Electoral Board and expresses its appreciation to Scott McGeary for his consummate dedication to the community.
