Resolution 2002-07:
"NO" on the sales tax referendum

Whereas, in January of 2001, the Arlington County Republican Committee (“ACRC”) passed its resolution 2001-01, opposing any new regional sales tax in Northern Virginia, as had been considered by the General Assembly during its 2001 session; and

Whereas, as result of actions taken by Gov. Warner and the General Assembly in its 2002 session, the following referendum will appear on the November 5, 2002 ballot:

"Shall an additional sales and use tax of one-half of one percent be imposed in Arlington County, Fairfax County, Loudoun County, Prince William County, the City of Alexandria, the City of Fairfax, the City of Falls Church, the City of Manassas, and the City of Manassas Park, with the revenues to be used solely for regional transportation projects and programs as specified in Chapter 853 of the Acts of Assembly of 2002?"

Now therefore, the Arlington County Republican Committee resolves:

We restate our opposition to the additional sales and use tax for regional transportation, as described in the ballot language shown above; and

We will indicate to the voters in Arlington our opposition to this tax on our sample ballot for Election Day.

Considered and adopted by the Arlington County Republican Committee
at its monthly meeting on July 25, 2002, in Arlington, Virginia
