Resolution 2002-02:
Kilgore's reform agenda for Virginia

Whereas, Republican Jerry Kilgore was overwhelmingly elected last November as Virginia’s new Attorney General; and

Whereas, Attorney General Kilgore was inaugurated on January 12, and within his first week in office offered a series of legislative proposals to make good on his campaign commitments; and

Whereas, the Kilgore proposals for ethics reform would improve the financial accountability of state officials, and reduce opportunities for conflicts of interest; and

Whereas, the Kilgore proposals to strengthen domestic-abuse laws would provide stronger legal protections for battered spouses and others who face the threat of physical harm; and

Whereas, the legislative initiatives from the Attorney General are particularly important, in view of the absence of legislative proposals from the new Governor; and

Whereas, the Republican-led General Assembly is now in session, working to adopt a new state budget and to address a wide range of legislative issues;

Now therefore, the Arlington County Republican Committee resolves:

We commend our new Attorney General for the forward-looking legislative reform agenda he has proposed. We encourage the General Assembly to act on those proposals, and after appropriate legislative review, to enact them into law.

Considered and adopted by the Arlington County Republican Committee
at its monthly meeting on January 24, 2002, in Arlington, Virginia
