Resolution 2001-03: GOP outreach Whereas, during the campaign last year, the Republican ticket of George W. Bush and Dick Cheney made unprecedented efforts to reach out to non-traditional constituencies, which contributed to their election victory in many states; and Whereas, President Bush and Vice President Cheney have now committed their new Administration to uniting America, and to provide greater opportunities for citizens from all backgrounds and walks of life; and Whereas, the Republican National Committee recently elected Virginia Governor Jim Gilmore to serve as RNC Chairman; and Whereas, Governor Gilmore has committed the RNC to expand the party's outreach efforts to non-traditional constituencies -- with particular focus on the Hispanic, African-American and Asian-American communities -- to invite support and participation from all Americans who share our Republican principles; and Whereas, other Republican leaders in Virginia have also placed a high priority on outreach to non-traditional constituencies a priority -- including Senator John Warner; Senator George Allen, who won considerable support among African-Americans in last year's Senate election; and Congressman Tom Davis, who recently helped launch a new alliance effort to attract greater GOP support from gay and lesbian voters. Now, therefore, the Arlington County Republican Committee resolves: We congratulate Governor Gilmore on his election as Republican National Chairman, and applaud the RNC for electing him to that important position. We commend President Bush, Vice President Cheney, Governor Gilmore, Senators Warner and Allen, Congressman Davis, and other Republican leaders for their commitment to expand the outreach efforts of the Republican Party, in non-traditional as well as core constituencies. We will redouble our outreach efforts here in Arlington County, to reach citizens from all sectors of the community and walks of life, and to invite all who share our Republican beliefs to join with us in building a stronger party for Arlington's future. Considered and adopted by the Arlington County Republican Committee at its monthly meeting on January 25, 2001, in Arlington, Virginia. Return to index of 2001 resolutions |
