Arlington Republicans elect
Berg as new County Chairman
Republican activist Chris Berg has been elected as Chairman of the Arlington County Republican Committee for the next two years, as the party gears up for the 2010 elections.
Berg, who had been party vice chairman, was elected to the top spot without opposition. He succeeds Mark Kelly, who served as chairman for 2008-10.
"This is an exciting time for Republicans nationwide, and here in Arlington," said Berg. "We’ve got a great group of Congressional candidates ready to take on Jim Moran. They are all presenting innovative and bold ideas.
"As Chairman, I plan to continue the efforts that Mark Kelly and I have worked on for the past two years, fighting to strengthen and grow the ACRC. Identifying new voters, recruiting strong candidates and new volunteers will be my top priorities.
"This year, we’ve got a unique opportunity to highlight the differences between our ideas and candidates and those of the Democrats. We’re working hard to recruit strong candidates who will carry our message to the voters of Arlington."
Berg also emphasized that the County Republican Committee would continue to be an inclusive organization "our party has a rich tradition of inclusion dating back to the days of Abraham Lincoln. The party welcomes members and volunteers from all backgrounds and every neighborhood within the County," he said.
Berg is the Assistant General Counsel for the conservative non-profit Citizens United. He has worked with the Republican National Lawyers Association and previously served as an appointee to the Department of Labor in the Administration of President George W. Bush. He is a graduate of the George Washington University and the George Washington University Law School. He has served as Vice Chairman of the Arlington County Republican Committee since 2008. He also serves as National Committeeman for the Young Republican Federation of Virginia and has been named Chairman of the Young Republican Leadership Conference.
A native of New York, Berg resides in the Rosslyn area of Arlington.
