Arlington GOP sets filing dates
for Convention delegates, County Board
Arlington Republicans are gearing up for this year's state and local elections.
The party has set Thursday, March 5, as the filing deadline for Arlington delegates to the GOP State Convention, which will select Republican candidates for statewide office. And April 17 is the deadline for candidates seeking the local GOP nomination for County Board.
"We intend to send a large delegation to the Convention this May," said Mark Kelly, Arlington GOP chairman. "We're also committed to finding local candidates who will promote discussion of Arlington issues and help to restore long-overdue balance on the County Board."
The State Convention will be held May 29-30 in Richmond, with contested nominations for Lt. Governor and Attorney General. Any interested Republican in Arlington may apply to be a delegate, and many slots are available. The filing form is available online at www.ArlingtonGOP.org and at local GOP headquarters (703-685-2488). Completed filing forms must be submitted or postmarked no later than March 5.
One seat on the County Board is up for election this year. If two ore more candidates file for the GOP nomination, a Republican canvass election would be held on May 16 to select the party nominee. Kelly also said the party is seeking candidates for House of Delegates and School Board this year, and potential candidates for the future.
