| Arlington County Republican Committee Mark Kelly, Chairman | ||||

For immediate release: Oct. 13, 2006
Statement:Political signsThis message has been jointly issued by the Arlington Republican and Democratic Committees, and distributed via each party's listserv. There have been an increasing number of reports recently of theft or vandalism to political signs for candidates of both parties. These reported incidents include signs in public roadways and in private yards. In Arlington, we have a long tradition of political civility. This includes the right to display signs in yards and median strips, as authorized by County ordinance. The Arlington County Democratic and Republican Committees both strongly endorse the lawful public display of political signs. While we applaud the high level of interest and spirited debate in this year's election, we want to take this opportunity to jointly urge all sides to respect the rights of others and to refrain from any destruction or taking of signs. The willful taking or destroying of political signs is a criminal offense. Anyone witnessing such activity should report it promptly to the Arlington Police Department. (To report an incident, call 703-228-4300 or use the online form.) Thanks to everyone for their support and efforts on behalf of their respective candidates, and their participation in the political process. Jeffrey Miller
