Arlington GOP selects
more candidates for '03
The new nominees are:
- TIM RUSSO for Arlington County Commissioner of the Revenue;
- WALTER STANKEWICK for State Senate, 30th District;
- JAY TEST for House of Delegates, 45th District; and
- R. CHRISTIAN HOFF for House of Delegates, 47th District.
They join the Republican nominees selected at the Arlington
Republican canvass in May:
- RICH KELSEY for County Board;
- KAMAL NAWASH for State Senate, 31st District; and
- STEVE SASS for House of Delegates, 48th District.
"Our Republican candidates represent new ideas and new leadership
for Arlington," said Arligton GOP Chairman David Avella. "At a time
when too many residents feel their government does not listen to
them, our candidates will show how we will lead by campaigning with
energy and enthusiasm throughout the County."
Russo was nominated for the Revenue post by the Arlington County
Republican Committee on June 9. He is a transportation consultant
with a background in accounting, and resides in the Dawson Terrace
neighborhood. The Commissioner of the Revenue is elected
countywide, and the seat is open this year, due to the retirement of
the incumbent.
Stankewick, a resident of Arlington's Fairlington neighborhood, is
director of translation services for a language services firm. He
was nominated last week by the Alexandria GOP for a district that
crosses jurisdictional lines. The 30th Senate district includes
Arlington neighborhoods south of Columbia Pike, along with most of
the city of Alexandria, and a portion of eastern Fairfax County.
Test was also nominated last week by the Alexandria Republican
Party. The 45th Delegate district includes the Fairlington and
Shirlington neighborhoods of Arlington, the eastern part of
Alexandria City, and part of eastern Fairfax County. Test is
co-owner of the popular Union Street Public House in Old Town,
and resides in Alexandria.
Hoff was nominated last week by the Arlington GOP's 47th legislative
district committee. He recently completed several years of service
in the U.S. Army, working for the Army Medical Service Corps, the
Joint Chiefs of Staff, and the White House. A resident of
Arlington's Penrose neighborhood, Hoff is currently a defense
consultant/contractor to the Joint Chiefs. The 47th District covers
the central portion of Arlington, north of Columbia Pike and south
of Washington Blvd., with a few precincts north of Washington Blvd.
The legislative seat will soon be vacant, with the announced
resignation of Del. Jim Almand.
