Official call for Republican Party canvass
and Convention Delegate candidates
I, Mark Kelly, Chairman of the Arlington County Republican Committee ("ACRC"), do hereby issue a call for a Party Canvass of all members of the Republican Party in Arlington, Virginia, to be held at NRECA, 4301 Wilson Blvd., Arlington, Virginia, from 7 PM to 9 PM on Wednesday, March 25, 2009. If warranted by the number of candidates, the date, location and time of the canvass are subject to change.
Purpose: The purpose of this Canvass is to elect up to 870 delegates from Arlington County to the 2009 State Convention of the Republican Party of Virginia, which will nominate candidates for statewide office. If fewer than 870 eligible persons from Arlington file for Convention delegate, the Canvass will be cancelled and all eligible candidates who have filed will be elected automatically.
Qualifications for candidates: Any legal resident who is a duly registered voter in Arlington County under the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia, as of the date of filing, regardless of race, religion, national origin or sex, and who certifies in writing that he or she is in accord with the principles of the Republican Party and intends to support all of its nominees for public office in the 2009 general election, may file as a candidate for delegate to the State Convention. In order to be certified for the Canvass ballot, candidates must meet all requirements established by Canvass rules.
Filing forms: Each candidate for Convention delegate must complete and submit the official Arlington filing form by the filing deadline. Filing forms may be obtained online at www.ArlingtonGOP.org (see download), or at ACRC headquarters, 405 S. Glebe Rd., Arlington, VA 22204 (see map), or upon request to ACRC (phone 703-685-2488 or by email at ). Completed forms may be submitted to ACRC headquarters either by U.S. mail or hand-delivered, marked to the attention of the Nominations Committee. No submissions by fax will be accepted.
Filing deadline: Forms must be received at ACRC headquarters not later than 9 pm on Thursday, March 5, 2009, or postmarked not later than 12 midnight on Thursday, March 5, 2009.
Filing fees: Candidates for delegate are requested to submit a voluntary fee of $35 (which will be transferred to the Republican Party of Virginia to defray convention costs) and a voluntary processing fee of $25 (which is paid to ACRC to defray the costs of reviewing filing forms and conducting a canvass). All checks should be made payable to "ACRC". These fees are voluntary, and do not affect the eligibility of a candidate for delegate.
Qualifications for voters: Any legal resident who is a duly registered voter in Arlington County under the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia, as of the date of the Canvass, regardless of race, religion, national origin or sex, and who certifies in writing that he or she is in accord with the principles of the Republican Party and intends to support all of its nominees for public office in the 2009 general election, may vote in the Party Canvass.
