Reorganization 2010

NOTE: This GOP canvass will select the Chairman and members of the Arlington County Republican Committee, and Arlington delegates to the 8th District Convention (May 22). All Republican voters in the County are welcome to participate. For more information, see our Reorganization 2010 page.

Official call for Republican Party canvass
and candidates for County Chairman,
County Committee members and District Convention delegates

I, Mark Kelly, Chairman of the Arlington County Republican Committee ("ACRC"), do hereby issue a call for a Party Canvass of all members of the Republican Party in Arlington, Virginia, to be held at ACRC headquarters, 405 S. Glebe Rd., Arlington, Virginia, from 10 AM to 2 PM on Saturday, March 20, 2010. If warranted by the number of candidates, the date, location and time of the canvass are subject to change.

Purpose: The purpose of this Canvass is to elect the following:
(1) the Chairman of the Arlington County Republican Committee for 2010-12;
(2) up to 180 members of the Arlington County Republican Committee for 2010-12; and
(3) up to 490 delegates from Arlington County to the 8th Congressional District Republican Convention (on May 22, 2010, at T.C. Williams HIgh School in Alexandria (see details), which will elect the 8th District Republican Chairman for 2010-12.
If the number of eligible candidates filing for any position does not exceed the the maximum authorized number for that position, the Canvass will be cancelled with regard to that position, and all eligible candidates who have filed will be elected automatically.

Qualifications for candidates: Any legal resident who is a duly registered voter in Arlington County under the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia, as of the date of filing, regardless of race, religion, national origin or sex, and who certifies in writing that he or she is in accord with the principles of the Republican Party and intends to support all of its nominees for public office in the 2010 general election, may file as a candidate for any of the positions listed above. In order to be certified for the Canvass ballot, candidates must meet all requirements established by Canvass rules.

Filing for County Chairman: Each candidate for County Chairman must submit a letter of intent to ACRC headquarters, (Attn: Nominations Committee), along with a filing fee of $200 (check payable to "ACRC"). The letter of intent must be received not later than 5 pm on Tue., Feb. 23, 2010. No submissions by fax will be accepted, and postmarks do not govern.

Filing for County Committee members and District Convention delegates:

  • Filing forms: Each candidate for Committee member or Convention delegate must complete and submit the official Arlington filing form by the filing deadline. Filing forms may be obtained online at www.ArlingtonGOP.org, or at ACRC headquarters (see map), or upon request to ACRC (phone 703-685-2488 , email ). Completed forms may be submitted to ACRC headquarters by personal delivery or U.S. mail, or submitted at the ACRC meeting on Feb. 24, 2010 at NRECA, 4301 Wilson Blvd., Arlington, VA. No submissions by fax will be accepted.
  • Filing deadline: Forms must be received at ACRC headquarters not later than 5 pm on Wed., Feb. 24, 2010; or received at the ACRC meeting on Wed., Feb. 24, 2010, by 8 pm; or mailed to ACRC and postmarked not later than 12 midnight on Wed., Feb. 24, 2010.
  • Filing fees: Candidates for Committee member must submit a filing fee of $35. Candidates for Convention delegate must submit a filing fee of $35 (which will be transferred to the 8th District Committee to defray convention costs). Candidates for either position are also requested to submit a voluntary processing fee of $30 (which is paid to ACRC to defray the costs of reviewing filing forms and conducting a canvass). All checks should be made payable to "ACRC".

Qualifications for voters: Any legal resident who is a duly registered voter in Arlington County under the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia, as of the date of the Canvass, regardless of race, religion, national origin or sex, and who certifies in writing that he or she is in accord with the principles of the Republican Party and intends to support all of its nominees for public office in the 2010 general election, may vote in the Party Canvass. No advance filing shall be required, and no fee shall be required, for any voter to participate in the Canvass.
