Official call for 47th District Republican Committee meeting

I, Robert G. Atkins, Chairman of the 47th Legislative District Republican Committee, hereby issue a call for a meeting of the Committee, to be held on Tuesday, June 9, 2009 at 1:00 PM at 5636 North 5th Street, Arlington, VA 22205 for the purpose of nominating a Republican Candidate for the 47th District.

NOTE: This GOP canvass would have selected the Republican nominee for State Delegate in the 47th District (Arlington). Since candidates did not file by April 17, the authority to nominate reverts to the Committee, which may consider nominations through June 9.

Official call for Republican Party canvass
and 47th District Delegate candidates

I, Robert Atkins, Chairman of the 47th Legislative District Republican Committee ("Committee"), do hereby issue a call for a Party Canvass of all members of the Republican Party in the 47th House District, to be held at the headquarters of the Arlington County Republican Committee ("ACRC"), 405 S. Glebe Rd., Arlington, Virginia, from 10 AM to 2 PM on Saturday, May 16, 2009. If warranted by the number of candidates, the date, location and time of the canvass are subject to change.

Purpose The purpose of this Canvass is to nominate a Republican candidate for Member of the Virginia House of Delegates in the 47th District in the general election on Nov. 3, 2009.

Qualifications for candidates: Any legal resident who is a duly registered voter in the 47th District under the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia, as of the date of filing, regardless of race, religion, national origin or sex, and who certifies in writing that he or she is in accord with the principles of the Republican Party and intends to support all of its nominees for public office in the 2009 general election, may file as a candidate for Delegate. In order to be certified for the Canvass ballot, candidates must meet all requirements established by Canvass rules.

Filing requirements: Each candidate for Delegate in the 47th District must submit a letter of intent to the 47th District Committee, along with a filing fee of $500 (payable to "ACRC"). Letters may be mailed or delivered to the 47th District Committee, c/o ACRC, 405 S. Glebe Rd., Arlington, VA 22204. All candidate letters and filing fees must be received by ACRC not later than 5 pm on Friday, April 17, 2009. Postmarks do not count.

Qualifications for voters: Any legal resident who is a duly registered voter in the 47th District under the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia, as of the date of the Canvass, regardless of race, religion, national origin or sex, and who certifies in writing that he or she is in accord with the principles of the Republican Party and intends to support all of its nominees for public office in the 2009 general election, may vote in the Party Canvass. No advance filing shall be required, and no fee shall be required, for any voter to participate in the Canvass.
