County Board 2012 special election

NOTE: This process will select the Republican nominee for Arlington County Board in the special election to be held in March 2012, to fill the vacancy created by the election of Barbara Favola to the State Senate in 2011. We welcome prospective GOP candidates for the office, and encourage them to contact us. All Republican voters in the County are invited to participate in the canvass to select the nominee. Official call for Republican Party canvass
and candidates for County Board

I, Mark Kelly, Chairman of the Arlington County Republican Committee ("ACRC"), do hereby issue a call for a Party Canvass of all members of the Republican Party in Arlington, Virginia, to be held at NRECA, 4301 Wilson Blvd., Arlington, Virginia, from 6 to 8 pm on Wednesday, January 25, 2012, to nominate a candidate in the special election called for March 27, 2012. If warranted by the number of candidates, the date, location and time of the canvass are subject to change.

Purpose The purpose of this Canvass is to nominate a Republican candidate for Member of the Arlington County Board in the special election called for Tuesday, March 27, 2012.

Qualifications for candidates: Any legal resident who is a duly registered voter in Arlington County under the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia, as of the date of filing, regardless of race, religion, national origin or sex, and who certifies in writing that he or she is in accord with the principles of the Republican Party and intends to support its nominee for public office in the 2012 special election, may file as a candidate for County Board. In order to be certified for the Canvass ballot, candidates must meet all requirements established by Canvass rules.

Filing requirements: Each candidate for County Board must submit a letter of intent to ACRC, along with a filing fee of $500. Letters may be mailed or delivered to ACRC headquarters, 405 S. Glebe Rd., Arlington, VA 22204. All candidate letters and filing fees must be received by ACRC not later than 12 noon on Tuesday, January 17, 2012. Postmarks do not count.

Qualifications for voters: Any legal resident who is a duly registered voter in Arlington County under the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia, as of the date of the Canvass, regardless of race, religion, national origin or sex, and who certifies in writing that he or she is in accord with the principles of the Republican Party and intends to support its nominee for public office in the 2012 special election, may vote in the Party Canvass. No advance filing shall be required, and no fee shall be required, for any voter to participate in the Canvass.
