| Arlington County Republican Committee Charles Hokanson, Chairman | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Reorganization 2010UPDATE: More than 100 local Republicans signed up during the 2010 filing period. Chris Berg filed for chairman, and was elected without opposition. About 70 have joined the County Committee, and a similar number will serve as delegates to the 8th District Convention in May. There are more positions available on the County Committee, and interested Republicans may still apply for election (see more information).
NOTE: Arlington Republicans will separately nominate a candidate for County Board, and help to select the GOP nominee for Congress in the 8th District. See Campaign 2010. Party offices: In early 2010, Arlington Republicans will select a local party Chairman and Committee members for the next two years. We'll also select delegates to the 8th Congressional District GOP convention in May, which elects the District Chairman. There are many positions available, and ACRC encourages all interested party members to participate.
Any registered voter in Arlington, who is in accord with the principles of the Republican Party, may file for any or all of the following positions:
Candidates for County Chairman must submit a letter of intent to ACRC by Tue., Feb. 23. If only one eligible candidates files, he or she will be automatically elected, and will be available to assume office at the Feb. 24 ACRC meeting. If more than one candidate files, a party canvass will be held on Sat., Mar. 20 to elect the chairman, who will take office following the canvass. Candidates for County Committee member and/or for 8th District Convention delegates must submit the official filing form to ACRC by Wed., Feb. 24. If the number who file does not exceed the number of available positions, all candidates will be elected automatically. Otherwise, a party canvass will be held on Sat., Mar. 20. The new committee will become effective upon election (after filings have been received and reviewed, and any canvass is held); the first meeting of the new committee will be Wed., Mar. 24. The filing period for chairman of the 8th District Republican Committee is still open. Any candidate for District Chairman must submit a letter of intent to the 8th District Committee, along with the applicable filing fee by Fri., Feb. 19.
The 8th District Republican Chairman will be elected at the District Convention on Saturday morning, May 22, at T.C. Williams High School in Alexandria (see location details). The Convention will also hear from GOP candidates for Congress. Arlington is authorized to send up to 490 delegates, about 30% of the total convention vote. Alexandria, Falls Church and Fairfax County will also be represented. (See more information on the Convention.)
Questions about the filing form, canvass or convention? Please call or write, and we're happy to respond. ACRC wants to make sure that all Arlington Republicans have every opportunity to participate fully in this year's party activities. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
