Convention 2009

Arlington voters will be voting for Governor, Lt. Governor, Attorney General, state legislators and county offices in 2009. The general election will be Tuesday, November 3.

Republican nominees for the three statewide offices were selected at the Virginia GOP Convention on May 30. More than 450 Arlington Republicans signed up to be delegates to the State Convention by the local filing deadline of March 5. (See more on the State Convention and local sign-up procedure.) About 275 Arlington delegates attended the Convention in Richmond.

Republican nominees for statewide office will be chosen by the GOP State Convention, to be held May 30, 2009, in Richmond. Any registered voter in the County, who believes in the principles of the Republican Party, may sign up to be an Arlington delegate to the Convention. We encourage all interested Republicans to participate.

IMPORTANT: You must sign up in advance, in order to be a voting delegate at the Convention. The filing form is available for download (see box), or you may ask us to send one to you. Be sure to sign the form, and submit it to ACRC promptly (see mail and delivery information). The filing deadline was Thursday, March 5. Forms MUST be delivered to ACRC headquarters no later tnan 9 pm on Mar. 5, or postmarked by that date. Late forms WILL NOT be accepted.

NOTES: There are many positions available (Arlington may send up to 870 delegates). If a larger number sign up, the selections will be made at a GOP canvass on Mar. 25. Also, the state party requests a filing fee of $35 for convention delegates, and ACRC requests a processing fee of $25, but those are voluntary.

For Governor of Virginia

McDonnell logoBob is a native of Northern Virginia (Fairfax County). He served in the House of Delegates from Virginia Beach for 10 years. He was elected Attorney General in 2005, and served until stepping down in Feb. 2009 for the Governor's race. He has broad support throughout the Commonwealth, and we look forward to supporting his campaign in Arlington.

For Lt. Governor of Virginia

This nomination was contested, with two Republicans seeking the position. The State Convention voted to nominate Bill Bolling.

Bolling photoLt. Gov. Bill Bolling of Hanover County is running for re-election. He and McDonnell are running together.

Bill served as state senator from central Virginia. He was elected Lieutenant Governor in 2005, and has been a consistent voice for fiscal responsibility.

Muldoon photoPatrick Muldoon of Giles County also ran for Lt. Governor in 2009.

Patrick is an intellectual property lawyer and cattle rancher from southwest Virginia. He has served in several party positions, and was the GOP nominee for Congress in 1996 in the 9th District.

For Attorney General of Virginia

This nomination was contested, with three Republicans seeking to succeed Bob McDonnell. The State Convention voted to nominate Ken Cuccinelli.
