Campaign 2005

In 2005, Arlington voters cast ballots for Virginia's statewide offices, helping to elect Republicans Bill Bolling as Lt. Governor and Bob McDonnell as Attorney General. Also on the ballot were members of the House of Delegates, County Board and School Board.

Statewide: Arlington Republicans participated in a statewide GOP primary on Tuesday, June 14, to select nominees for the three statewide positions. There were lively contests for each office:

For Governor:

For Lt. Governor*/:

* - Three announced candidates dropped out of the race for Lt. Gov.: Del. Joe May of Loudoun County withdrew in March; Gil Davis of Fairfax County withdrew in April; and Sen. Emmett Hanger of Augusta County had insufficient petition signatures.]

For Attorney General:

Local: Arlington voters will also select candidates for local offices:

For County Board: One seat - currently held by Jay Fisette (D)

For School Board**/: Bill Barker (endorsed)
[Open seat! - incumbent Elaine Furlow is not seeking re-election]

** - The School Board seat is officially non-partisan, but candidates often run with party endorsement.

For State Delegate: Four seats (see map)

*** - The 45th and 49th districts also include precincts in Alexandria City and Fairfax County.

The party may nominate candidates for County Board and State Delegate at any time before the primary. Endorsements may be made at any time before the general election. Prospective candidates for any position are encouraged to contact ACRC.

The general election ballot in November will include all statewide and local contests.
