Here’s a quick update on May’s regular monthly meeting. We discussed a recap of the convention proceedings, presented volunteer opportunities, and new tactics to engage the Arlington Republican community.
Arlington County Republicans certainly had a strong showing at the Republican Party of Virginia (RPV) Convention and the 8th Congressional District Republican Committee convention. At the RPV Convention, one hundred of the 3,000 attendees were from Arlington, and 99 of the 8th District attendees were from Arlington. Arlington GOP had the following members elected:
- Matt Hurtt and Charlie Keller – Delegates to the National GOP convention, and Erin Anderson, alternate
- Morton Blackwell – GOP National Committee
- Charles Hernick – GOP nominee for Congress from the 8th District
- Mark Kelly – 8th District Chairman
- Dave Foster and Sand Liddy Bourne – State Central Committee
In our year-long community engagement efforts, we will utilize and distribute mailers, printed door hangers, and fact sheets prior to the election. In addition to these materials, there will be an emphasis on door knocking and small house meetings where Arlington Republicans can gather with neighbors. Volunteer training will also be available for a smart phone get-out-the-vote app. Please reach out to Matt Hurtt for more information on volunteer opportunities.
We are also excited for the upcoming annual summer picnic that will take place on July 31st at the Arlington Knights of Columbus. Visit our website to learn more. And, we hope to see you there!
Thanks to all of the candidates who spoke at our meeting and are running for Virginia Attorney General, Virginia Lieutenant Governor, and the 8th Congressional District!
We look forward to seeing you at next month’s meeting on June 22, 2106 at 7:00 PM! Details about the meeting are on our website.
