Party Canvass of 48th Legislative District of the Republican Party of Virginia to nominate a candidate for Delegate to the Virginia General Assembly.
As Chairman of the 48th Legislative District Committee of the Republican Party of Virginia, and pursuant to the Plan of Organization and as recommended and directed by the Committee, I, Scott McGeary, do hereby issue this call for a Party Canvass to be held at ACRC headquarters, 405 S. Glebe Rd., Arlington, Virginia, from 10 am to 2 pm on Saturday, July 5, 2014 for the purpose of nominating a Republican candidate for the office of 48th District Delegate to the Virginia General Assembly to be voted for in the special election to be held on August 19, 2014.
If warranted by the number of candidates, the date, location and time of the canvass are subject to change. At the discretion of the Chairman, the Canvass may be canceled in the event of only one or no candidate filing.
Qualifications for candidates
Any legal resident who is a duly registered voter in 48th House of Delegates district under the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia, as of the date of filing, regardless of race, religion, national origin or sex, and who certifies in writing that he or she is in accord with the principles of the Republican Party and intends to support its nominees for public office in the 2014 general election, may file as a candidate for Member of the House of Delegates for the 48th District. In order to be certified for the Canvass ballot, candidates must meet all requirements established by Canvass rules.
Candidates for the nomination or election at said Canvass shall file a written statement, along with a filing fee of $700, to Chairman McGeary, Arlington County Republican Committee, 405 S. Glebe Road, Arlington VA 22204, which must be received not later than 7 p.m. on Wednesday, July 2, 2014. Postmarks do not count.
Qualifications for Participation
All legal and qualified voters of the 48th House of Delegates district under the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia, regardless of race, religion, national origin or sex, who are in accord with the principles of the Republican Party and who, if requested, express in open meeting either orally or in writing as may be required, their intent to support all of its nominees for public office in the November 2014 general election, may participate as members of the Republican Party of Virginia in its mass meetings, party canvasses, conventions or primaries encompassing their respective election districts.
There will be no registration fee to participate in this canvass.
